MusicGang Of Four - Is It Love (Jellybean Dance Mix)Jul 10, '08 2:25 PM
for everyone

Holy cow, 24 years on this song is still making me groove... Love the vocals, the female singer wailing.. its just 5 plus minutes of bliss. Bassist Sara joined earlier to this three piece version of the Gang. You probably know her as she on went to join the B-52's starting with Cosmic Thing album. .

I have no recollection of buying this but it must have been in the cut out bins because it has a cut out in the cd. These are dance versions of Culture Club hits, some decent some not.. Remixed and Remade by BFR Productions, 1998. Looks like something i bought at Camelot for $1!
Sometimes the guy sounds like Boy G, sometimes, well...
It's billed as "The Ultimate Dance Beat Collection Cover Versions" a bit wishful thinking.. hee hee

Morgan Page, remixer, artist, DJ had a remix contest but I didn't get this finished in time for the deadline. Was fun remixing, I deconstructed the guitar to make it sound like some kind of devil at the crossroads picking. So here it is in all its's broken guitar glory.

I have a bad love for Giorgo Moroder.. the godfather of synths, so this was the perfect pairing. It's Chromeo's "Call Me Up" vocals with Giorgio's "Night Drive (Theme from American Gigiolo)" aka Blondie's "Call Me." I also gave the track a new spin blending "Who Made You" by The Twin (Boy George). Rounding out the mix, there's some phone sound effects thrown in from Germany's Kraftwerk and Camouflage.

Chromeo - Call Me Up (Vocals)
Giorgio Moroder - Night Drive (Theme from American Gigolo)
The Twin - Who Made You
Kraftwerk - The Telephone Call
Camouflage - Love is a Shield (William Orbit Mix)

Got this in the mail today, havent event thanked them yet, but it's so cool to have your mixes played to audiences all over the world.. Thanks A &D and keep up the great work!

Hey Apollo Zero!

Just want to let you know we broke out extra Apollo Zero tracks in
our DJ sets this weekend in San Francisco.  It was our giant Gay
Pride festivities and many of your tracks were excellent for the
diverse audiences we had at various gigs, including Bootie SF this
weekend.

So even though you weren't here to hear it, just know your tracks
we're getting alot of Bootie LOVE.  We also played a track or 2 of
yours at our London gigs when we were there, for that matter.

I feel bad, because I'm sure so many mashup producers don't know that
we DO play their music and often put tracks on Bootie CDs with their
name, but we're just too swamped to do playlists  of our DJ sets --
and even the Bootie CDs.  But at least, for one, you today know!

Keep up all the great tracks, you have a very unique and wonderful
mashup style!

best,
D  (& A)

Blog EntryNew Kids on the Block, here we come!Jul 3, '08 9:24 AM
for everyone
My niece has bought us VIP tickets to New Kids on The Block concert coming here to the arena October. She forked down huge bucks for tickets in rows 1-5 and backstage meet and greet. We don't know the row of the seats til the show which are sold via their website. $375 a ticket.. i should be getting a lapdance out of that or something.. she really wanted to go to and meet Donnie W! We had a long discussion about it because I didnt want to pay that to go to a concert so she made up the difference. She wanted me to go because I took her to see the Kids back in the day when she was 10.

MusicCandy Flip - SPACE (Japanese EP)Jun 29, '08 4:44 PM
for everyone

I love everything that this one album group produced.. they are now recording producing as Soul Mechanik. This japanese EP has a super special track, Boy George's remix of "Space."

Details:
Candy Flip were a British electronic dance band who rode the madchester wave in the early 1990s.

Candy Flip were named after the slang term for the practice of taking ecstasy and LSD at the same time which fitted perfectly with the popular rave scene of the time. The band were formed by Danny Spencer (vocals, keyboards), Kelvin Andrews (keyboards) and Ric Peet (keyboards) in 1990. The band had a top three UK hit with an electronic cover of The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever" in 1990. The b-side of the 12" Single contained another electronic track entitled "Can You Feel The Love".

In 1991, Candy Flip released their first album, Madstock . . . The Continuing Adventures of Bubble Car Fish, which combined rave beats with synth pop, strongly influenced by bands such as the Pet Shop Boys and The Beloved. A further single "This Can Be Real" fared less well on the UK Singles Chart, only reaching #60.

The band were criticized for jumping on the madchester bandwagon and were treated by the press as a one-hit wonder.

Candy Flip split up in 1992 after the UK rave and baggy scene faded into history. Peet became a record producer and engineer, working with bands such as the Charlatans and Six By Seven. Spencer joined Sound 5.

Most recently, Danny Spencer and Kelvin Andrews (as Soul Mekanik) produced four songs on the Robbie Williams album, Rudebox (2006).

Mario Lopez Caught in Hairy Situation

Filed Under: Star Scandals, TV News
(June 27) - He's PEOPLE's hottest bachelor, but whether he's an honest bachelor might be another story.

Actor Mario Lopez raised questions this week after he told the magazine that he doesn't have to shave his chest. Lopez said he never "manscapes" -- because "that's the Latin Indian blood in me. My Dad has a hairy chest, but I don't."

But photos soon surfaced of the former "Dancing With the Stars" alum that showed differently. Dubbed "Chesthairgate" by Defamer, Lopez's apparent fib has sparked outrage among fans of the actor, says Star magazine.

This is the unfinished second album by Haircut 100. The band was in turmoil and there was no communication with Nick and the others toward the end. The first 10 tracks are from the second album, some have Nick's vocals, some are instrumental. You may recognize some of the titles as Nick had a nervous breakdown, split and took his songs with him and they ended up rerecorded and finished on his first solo album, North of a Miracle. The band carried on from scratch, writing and recording their own compositions and put out "Paint & Paint."
Also included here is Haircut 100 live in 1983. It's a collection of hits, album tracks and non album tracks that ended up on the second unreleased album.

I think you can tell the band was in turmoil as these songs seem to need alot of work and seem more like unfleshed out ideas than songs.
